Meet our Therapist Asuqwo Francis Ekene, MA, LPC
My Approach
How can therapy help me with my problems? That is a question I am sure a lot of people ask themselves when considering therapy. One of my philosophies of life is that although we cannot always control our experiences and circumstances, we can choose our responses to them and delve into how they affect and influence us as humans. We ultimately have the capacity to grow if we allow ourselves to. My belief is that presence is essential. I understand that I cannot change any individual other than myself, but I can act as a vessel or catalyst by truly understanding myself to help another person. My goal is to create an environment where you become the best you possible by looking into all aspects of your life that affect you.
I received my degree from Texas State University and have been in practice for the past 8 years. I have worked with adolescents, adults, and the elderly. I have helped individuals adjust to major life changes such as grief and loss, depression, anxiety, chronic illness, anger management, pain management, and other issues individuals experience. I provide an empathetic, compassionate and nonjudgmental space for my clients to be accepted and feel safe. I utilize person-centered therapy, cognitive behavioral therapy, and a strength-based approach to meet each individual’s needs while also being culturally competent.
